onstage Tap is a form of dance that has been cherished by audiences for centuries. From Broadway style tap to rhythmic tap, dancers will improve their coordination, musicality, and stamina in class.

Hip Hop

A very popular style of dance in the 20th & 21st centuries, hip hop offers a space for dancers to show off their style and tell a story. Students learn history of hip hop, study various styles, and build confidence.Focusing on sharp movements and teamwork, dancers use poms during and incorporate jazz and hip hop moves in their routines.

Lyrical

Lyrical focuses on interpreting music to portray a feeling or story. Dancers are able to effectively move their audience by using emotional and technical elements from ballet and modern.

Musical Theater

Deriving from the big stages of New York, musical theater allows dancers to overtly tell a story through gestures and song. This style gives dancers the confidence to take up the stage and show off their acting and performance skills! At DDC, musical theater focuses on building acting skills and learning dance basics to effectively perform award-winning Broadway choreography.

Pre-Pointe & Pointe

Pre-pointe is designed to give dancers the tools to prepare for pointe. From strengthening legs to learning how to sew pointe shoes, pre-pointe is a great supplemental class for serious dancers. Dancers will not be en pointe in this class, but strengthen their muscles to prepare for pointe shoes in the future.

Dancers who wish to dance en pointe will need to take at least one ballet class per week, have at least one year of training in ballet, be at least 11 years old, and be approved by an instructor. These dancers will be taken to a pointe shoe fitting with an instructor to get the perfect shoe for their physique and then will be able to begin taking pointe classes!

**It is very important that dancers do not attempt to purchase pointe shoes or go en pointe until they are approved by an instructor. Dancers must be properly fitted for shoes with the instructor. Dancers who are not strong enough or old enough for pointe can be seriously injured.

Ballet Variations

Designed for Ballet 3+, Ballet Variations teaches classical variations from beloved ballets such as Paquita, Swan Lake, Raymonda, and more. Dancers should have strong technical ability and understand ballet terminology to succeed in this advanced class.

Contemporary

Modern

Typically referred to as one of the "big three" styles of western dance, modern dance uses technique derived in the late 19th century to tell stories and challenge the regimen of classical ballet. From Graham to Horton, dancers can train in several different techniques of modern dance.

BALLROOM

Ballroom consists of a variety of influences, including samba, jive, waltz, cha cha, rumba, salsa, tango, and more. At DDC, Ballroom classes do not use partners and focus on footwork, standard technique, terminology, and performance skills.
